A gunfight broke out between two armed groups in Imphal on Wednesday. As per police, armed men fired from the hilltops of Kangpokpi district.

As reported by PTI, the men were targeting the Sinam Kom village. No injuries have been reported as of now.

Meanwhile, as Manipur remains embroiled in conflict, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has stated a need for "immediate peace" in the northeastern state.

Defending champions India will now face off against China, who beat Pakistan in the first semi-final.

Speaking at the Good Governance Day programme in Imphal, the Manipur chief minister asserted that BJP can save Manipur and resolve the conflict in the state.

"What is happening in Manipur today has many reasons. Today, those who have been trying to divide the state are asking what the government is doing...they are hungry for power," Singh said adding that the BJP is "not against any particular community. The stand of the BJP is clear. We believe in the idea of living together. We have already started to build relations between the police and the people."

"Only BJP can save Manipur...BJP leaders have a high sense of nationalism and social justice. They do reality-based politics in the interests of the nation....if I am not given a ticket by the BJP, I will remain with the party," Singh added further.

Manipur has been embroiled in a state of conflict since May 2023. The ethnic conflict erupted between the Metitei and Kuki-Zo tribal communities.

Since then, over 60ubet63,000 people have been displaced and hundreds killed due to the conflict.
