Casper Ruud is yet to win a Grand Slam title but the Norwegian is already an established force in tennis. A three-time Major finalist, the 26-year-old from Oslo opens his Australian Open 2025 campaign with a first-round match against Jaume Munar on Sunday (January 12, 2025) at Melbourne Park, Melbourne. Known for his consistent play on all types of surfaces, Ruud enjoyed a break-out year in 2022 when he reached the finals at the French Open (clay), losing to his idol Rafael Nadal and the US Open (hard), Carlos Alcaraz. The following year, he lost the Roland Garros final to Novak Djokovic.

India, the most successful team in the competition, now have five titles, including back-to-back triumphs in 2023 and 2024. The victory adds to their bronze medal secured at the Paris Olympic Games last month.

His best Australian Open performance, however, remains a fourth-round appearance in 2021. Last year, he lost to Cameron Norrie in the third round. Seeded sixth, he is expected to enjoy a deep run Down Under this term.

But the former World No. 2 will need to contend with a Spaniard fighter, Jaume Munar. Currently 61st in the ATP Rankings, Munar can make test the best in the business on his day. In 2022, he defeated Ruud at the Japan Open, a hard-court event, in straight sets. Rudd leads Munar 3-1 in the head-to-head record, and they last met in 2023.
